The piece "Mixed" explores my social body as an intersection of race, class, gender, sexuality, traditions, history and culture and creates a complex sculpture. The patches of fabric over the American flag explain and explore further into the conflicting duality of my identity, however, tries to contain it within the body as a whole. The collage with various patterns, textures, qualities of fabric, picked from various walks of my life, highlights traditions and the weight of traditions that control and direct my identity. It stands a witness to how we pick and choose traits through our life to form and reform one cohesive self.
